Migrants Stuck In Tijuana Regret Caravan Journey: “I’m Done With The United States”

After a multi-week journey from Central America culminating in a chaotic tear-gas incident last weekend at the Tijuana River, some migrants from the Central American caravan are now regretting their decision to seek asylum in the United States, according to the Daily Beast.

“I thought it would be easy,” said 40-year-old corn farmer Carlos González, who traveled among the caravan with his wife and two children, ages 4 and 3 – only to end up in Tijuana – where the locals have been anything but welcoming. According to a poll in El Universal, 49% of Mexicans have said that caravans shouldn’t be allowed to cross the country.

“We’re here alone, hungry, unprotected. My daughter is sick with diarrhea,” he said. “I don’t want to lose my kids, lose my life.” González now hopes to earn money in Tijuana washing cars.

The migrants face long wait times and an uncertain future as they line up and put their names on a list to be heard for Asylum claims – which are currently being processed at a rate of less than 100 per day. Doing the math, it could be months before the roughly 5,000 migrants holed up in Tijuana shelters and a squalid soccer field camp are processed. Not only that, there is no guarantee they will be granted asylum – as migrants have to show evidence of valid claims.

Jeffrey Renderos, 31, put his name in a ledger and received a ticket with the number 1655. Renderos, a bearded Honduran who fled gang threats and arrived in Tijuana six months ago, figured he would wait at least a month to have a hearing—though he wasn’t complaining. He couldn’t contain his scorn for the caravan, however.

If they acted like civilized people, it would be different,” he said. When asked why he held such a poor opinion of fellow Hondurans, he responded, “You saw the way they clashed with police?” –Daily Beast

35-year-old San Pedro Sula waiter Luis Corrales lost faith in the journey after Sunday’s tear-gas incident.

Luis Corrales, 35, a waiter from San Pedro Sula, didn’t expect any problems in the protest. He said the march set out to seek answers from U.S. officials, though he acknowledged some had hoped they could make their case to border patrol agents and enter the United States.

Women and children were walking at the front of the march, he said, “to see if they would let them enter.” Daily Beast

Corrales, selling cigarettes to fellow migrants to get by, says that he thought that getting into the US would be as easy as when the caravan crossed from Guatemala into Mexico – only to be sadly disappointed.

“I’m done with the United States. I’ll stay here,” said Corrales.

    1. It is also costing Mexico and the towns they hle up in. There should be an effort to return them to their homes or resettle in Mexico that offered them asylum. We have enough 22 Million to be closer to fact.Attending our free schools, getting Welfare [Oh excuse me they now call it Aid to Dependent Children so citizens get duped] Foodstamps, healthcare all on the US taxpayers dime

      1. I think this caravan backfired on Mexico. I believe the Mexican authorities thought that if they could get them to our border their problem would be over with. The Mexican people don’t like the fact that Mexico allowed them to march through their country unhindered. Now they have them and they don’t like it. The legit members of the caravan don’t even like what the others in it are doing. They know that the acts of the bad ones are costing the legit ones their chance at asylum. I have no problem with migrants wanting to come here the legal way, but for every one that wants to come legally there’s a hundred wanting to come illegally and it hurts the chances of all of them. It’s about time America put a stop to illegal immigration.

    2. The DEMS N SOROS are behind this CARAVAN n to get these ILLEGALS into the US so that the DEMS can be voted in. And, we all know how the States ABSOLUTELY CHEAT in their votes to get their DEMS into office, look what happened in Florida. ABSOLUTELY SX N CRAZY! Yes, so many SANCTUARY states that let their ILLEGALS vote.

    3. If I had to guess, I would say it’s the very deep pocketed democrats like multi-billionaires George Soros or Sidney Blumenthal. Seems like they have no problem stirring up trouble hoping to put republicans in a bad light. I sure wish it could be found out who’s behind it because I have a hard time believing that 5,000 people decided all at once to walk to the US and attempt to illegally cross our border right before the midterm elections. It’s kind of like Senator Dianne Feinstein withholding the letter she got from Dr. Ford in July until the confirmation hearing of Judge Brett Kavanaugh was in it’s eleventh hour. Real convenient.

  1. The Democrats, Soros, and all the crazies in Hollywood. They are telling them that it will be to their benefit.
I guess the joke is on those poor illegals, dreaming of free food, clothes, schools, healthcare and God knows what else they expected.

  2. The left has used and abused these people. They are as much victims of a huge political scam as are the people of Mexico and the US. The left talks about fairness, human dignity, etc. but give them a chance and they will exploit the most unfortunate among people as the way to make a political statement. The people who claim to want to help these people on the left are just elitists, and evil opportunists.

  3. Aww! Can you hear the disdain we all express? I feel sorry for the poor children, but go to a Mexican clinic, or hospital, & get some help. Mexico DID offer that to them if they want to stay in Mexico. Of course, a lot of the Mexican citizenry feels the same way we Americans feel, resentment!

  4. I, as an American, am very happy that this caravan is turning around, and that people no longer want to come here. Good job President Trump!

  5. We tried to tell you you weren’t getting into the U.S. before you started your hike. Quit trying to leach on everyone else and go get a job, make some money and maybe then go back home and work to fix your country.
