Tillerson Alleges Trump Wanted Him to Break the Law

Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says President Donald Trump wanted him to do things that would have been illegal.

“So often, the president would say here’s what I want to do and here’s how I want to do it and I would have to say to him, ‘Mr. President I understand what you want to do but, you can’t do it that way,’” Tillerson said. “It violates the law,”

His comments came during a fundraiser in Houston on Thursday and were detailed in a report posted on the House Chronicle website.

Tillerson said Trump would often become frustrated during their meetings.

“I’d say here’s what we can do,” Tillerson said. “We can go back to Congress and get this law changed. And if that’s what you want to do, there’s nothing wrong with that. I told him I’m ready to go up there and fight the fight, if that’s what you want to do.”

Trump fired Tillerson in March. Months earlier NBC News reported Tillerson had called Trump a “moron.”

  1. Tillerson is just being a jackass! It is pretty clear that the President was tasking him to get certain necessary things done and not going through the bureaucratic inept Congress to make chnages to the law. The President did not tell Tillerson to break the law but wanted him yo find creative ways to accomplish his objectives. Tillerson was obviously not the right fit for the Secreatary of State position. Pompeo is obviously fulfilling this role in a more effective way.

  2. Exactly correct. A president does
not know every single law on the books. It was up to Mr Tillerson
    to accomplish the President’s
    policies and to advise him
of the best way legal way to
    accomplish without dealing with
a corrupt inept Congress. Well said

  3. OK Scott and Carolyn, I’m afraid you are going to have to leave the country. Common Sense has absolutely no place in the current political climate. Logical thought is not allowed. How Dare You! 🙂
