President Donald Trump weighed in on the controversy surrounding a group of Catholic schoolboys and a Native American group Monday night, saying it appears the story has been misreported in the media.
“Looking like Nick Sandman & Covington Catholic students were treated unfairly with early judgements [sic] proving out to be false – smeared by media,” Trump tweeted. “Not good, but making big comeback! ‘New footage shows that media was wrong about teen’s encounter with Native American’ @TuckerCarlson”
After Friday’s March For Life in Washington, D.C., a group of Catholic school students was waiting for a bus when there appeared to be a nonviolent showdown between some of the boys and a Native American group that was marching and playing drums. New video footage, however, showed another group was actually taunting the schoolboys before the Native Americans marched over.
Some of the students were wearing “Make America Great Again” hats, and initial media reports claimed they were taunting the Native Americans and shouting them down.
Subsequent reports appear to have debunked that.
