AG Barr Blasts Trump ‘Roger Stone’ Tweets For Making It “Impossible To Do My Job”

In an unusual break with the president, US Attorney General Bill Barr told ABC News that Trump “has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case” but should stop tweeting about the Justice Department because his tweets “make it impossible for me to do my job.”

Barr’s comments come after the president demoaned the lengthy sentence demanded by prosecutors in the Roger Stone case, only to see the sentencing demands cut and the entire prosecution resign – offering a not-so-good optical for Barr.

“I think it’s time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases,” Barr told ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas.

Thomas then asked Barr if we was worried about the potential blowback from criticizing the president. Barr replied curtly “Of Course.”:

“I’m not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody … whether it’s Congress, a newspaper editorial board, or the president,” Barr said.

“I’m gonna do what I think is right. And you know … I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me.”

We do note, however, that during the interview, Barr fiercely defended his actions and said it had nothing to do with the president.

Barr added that it was “preposterous” to suggest that he “intervened” in the case as much as he acted to resolve a dispute within the department on a sentencing recommendation.

  1. The POTUS (like every citizen in this country) has a RIGHT to express their opinion. It’s called “free speech”
Just because you are an “elected” official doesn’t mean you have to be “silent” because it might “offend” someone that disagrees…Too damn bad.
(Which seems to be the “flavor of the day” now because it seems there is ALWAYS someone that is “offended”.)
BTW, This case was all over the news, and public knowledge so what is the “big deal” ?

    1. Unlike you and me, the President overseas the Justice Department, so his comments have a kind of impact that isn’t available to the average citizen. That’s why Barr and many others criticize the President for interfering with the judicial process. It’s not about offending anyone. It’s about using illicit interference. See the difference?

  2. the BARR AT JUSTICE IS SET WAY TOO LOW!!!!!! THAT IS THE BIG DEAL!!! LETS SET THE BARR HIGHER BY GETTING RID OF BARR!

    1. I agree with you, especially after the POS is not going to prosecute McCabe. And, as far as his tweets, I like them. The left had no problem with Obama opening his mouth after Martin and Ferguson in which he was dead wrong. He might have been right on the Massachusetts case.

      1. If President Obama was wrong, that doesn’t make President Trump right. The President should never interfere with ongoing criminal proceedings. If he wants to pardon someone, he can do that later on.

        1. Erk, You’re wrong. BARR is covering up…417 Violations of law by the FBI in the FISA report and BARR called them errors and not 1 person prosecuted, they tried to frame the President of the United States. Barr’s problem are the rats in his department, not the President! Why are these people STILL THERE??? WHY??? #MoreTweets!

    1. Who appointed Barr? Was it the Bushes? If it was President Trump, then direct your criticism at him for making a bad choice.

      Good administrators choose able underlings.

      1. Erk, Trump was NOT a Washington insider and he has been given bad advice from people he thought were his friends. However, our President is a fast learner. Barr can resign if he thinks Trump makes it “Impossible to Do His Job”.
How about Barr tells Democrats to “BACK OFF”, and Lock a Few of them Up for leaking, lying, and attempting a Coup against the President.
Then perhaps he could “Do His Job” in peace.

  3. If Trump can do his job under the biggest sh*t storm ever done on any politician, little Barr can do his job after a few tweets. He comes off like a whiney little b*itch.
Suck it up buttercup; you sound like a Democrat!

    1. Criticizing the President for interfering with an ongoing criminal matter does not make Barr sound like a Democrat. Barr’s job is to make sure justice is done. He apparently believed that the President was interfering with a proper judicial matter.

It’s possible that the President doesn’t understand how the criminal justice system works. Unlike Barr, President Trump is not a lawyer. He’s clearly not an expert when it comes to the law. That’s why Barr was giving him a heads-up. It’s exactly what an employee ought to do.

      1. Erk, Obama interfered in criminal investigations. He complained that the police had “acted stupidly” prior to the infamous and embarrassing “beer summit”, Obama has shown himself eager to interfere with ongoing investigations for political reasons. When thuglet Trayvon Martin provided an good example of why jumping and beating down a stranger is a bad evolutionary strategy, Obama jumped on the race-baiting bandwagon saying if he had a son, that son would look like Martin. When the Justice Department was looking into the illegal use of the IRS to harass opponents of the administration, Obama said “there is not even a smidgen of corruption.” When deserter and failed turncoat Bowe Bergdahl was released by the Taliban, Obama had his hippie parents over for a Rose Garden ceremony even though he was known at the time to be a deserter. Obama also interjected himself into the investigation into the fate of top secret documents illegally stored on Hillary Clinton’s private server.

    1. Do you really want a President who puts on an act, who makes a movie out of government? Next up is “show trials” of the sort Stalin enjoyed. I always thought that conservatives favored the rule of law, not the rule of showmanship.
