Weinstein Jury Deadlocked On Predatory Sexual Assault Charge

The jury in Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault trial ended the week deadlocked over the most serious charge of predatory sexual assault, though they say they’ve reached a unanimous verdict on charges of rape and committing a criminal sex act, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The jury was sent home for the weekend and will resume deliberations on Monday.

The jury’s note Friday offered the first glimpse inside disagreements among jurors as they have deliberated in New York City over four days. Predatory sexual assault requires jurors to agree that Mr. Weinstein carried out more than one sex crime and carries a sentence of up to life in prison.

If the jury has found Weinstein guilty of the other two acts, he could be convicted of predatory sexual assault.

According to the Journal, the jury’s verdict sheet requires that they first decide on the predatory sexual assault, and if they decide to acquit him on that count, can consider the other two charges separately on their own.
